Proposed Satoshi Statue Gains Support in Kiev

Kiev statue

An initiative project to erect a monument of Satoshi Nakamoto in Kiev, Ukraine, is gaining support and momentum. The proposed idea is to place the statue right where the red Karelian stone figure of Lenin used to stand. The said project is part of the global campaign to build Satoshi’s monuments around the world.

The monument of Nakamoto may soon be seen of the visitors and residents of Kiev, capital of Ukraine. The project to erect s statue of the unknown inventor of Bitcoin and the Blockchain technology has been earning numerous support. The plan is to mount the figure on the intersection of the country’s capital city’s main “Taras Shevchenko” Boulevard and “Khreshchatyk” Street.

The targeted spot is not a random place. Years ago, it was occupied by the monument of Vladimir Lenin, the leader and founder of the Soviet Union. His statue was toppled and destroyed by angry protesters in December 2013. The said act was one of the most memorable events during the Euromaidan demonstration which leads to the dramatic political changes in the country.

Space, opposite to the city’s market, has since turned into a site for political artwork and expression. During the height of civil unrest during 2014, the activists put a golden toilet as a symbol of widespread corruption in their divided and troubled country. One of the accusations against their president was that he has golden toilets installed in a country estate near the capital Kiev.

The people behind the proposed project initially design a virtual Satoshi monument. The said digital statue will be visible through a mobile app when the smartphone is turned towards the pedestal. The Ukranian VR/AR and robotics company has promised to materialize the virtual reality concept.

The organizers of the project also intend to file a petition to the city administration and apply for permission to build a real and physical monument. The team plans to raise all the necessary means for a crowdfunding campaign. Furthermore, the virtual project has been supported by most of the Ukranian entrepreneur like Alexander Soroka, the founder of Startup Network, who has already donated 1 Bitcoin.

The installation of the said statue is part of the global initiative to create a “Blockchain Republic.” In case the city rejects the petition, the authors of the proposed project will be looking for another location for the symbolic figure.
