ZCash What Happened to the Progress of Privacy Infrastructure for Public Good Planned for 2020

zcash privacy infrastructure

ZCash reflects on the progress of their established goals for 2020 while they had to realign their goals in response to CoVid-19.

Zcash were glad that their remote teams were able to develop privacy-preserving contact tracing, which was something they did not plan to help with.

ZCash Foundation tweeted:  “In the beginning of 2020, acityinohio and the ZF board decided on 15 near-term goals to push forward ZF’s mission (privacy infrastructure for the public good!

Zcash reported that they are continuing on their newly re-designed Zebra.  They have not, however, released a clear activation date. They opine that they are not targeting to complete during mid-April, but feel they will probably get it done by mid-July. Some of the details are documented in the research and development comprehensive dashboard.

They are working on development support for light wallets. Zcash users with ZECwallet will be able to protect their ZEC immediately.

Cross Chain integrations for Zcash are in the research stage, progressing towards deployment on the design of a Zcash-Cosmos Peg zone.  The scope and design of the roadmap will be published during Q2.

Sydney Ifergan, the crypto expert, tweeted:  “It is out of #pandemic compulsion that project deliverables are realigned.  It is good to see #ZCash continue with their mission of privacy infrastructure for the public good.”

ZCash Open Community Video Call

Very recently, about a week or two ago, the Zcash Foundation published their Q1 2020 report with updates regarding all their initiatives, which they mentioned in January.

Reportedly, the Zcash community established its path forward regarding the continued funding of the Zcash protocol development and privacy research. A major portion of the development fund is to be decided by the Major Grant Review Committee (MGRC).  They will likely steward and evaluate third-party development efforts on a rolling basis.

The community is planning to schedule an open community video call on June 05, 2020.  Thus, all candidates and community members are invited, and they will be able to participate in providing community members with an opportunity to ask questions directly.  While all candidates are not required to attend, they are encouraged to do so.

A Helios Poll will be opened with the current community advisory panel to select five members of the MGRC.  The polling is scheduled to close on June 19, 2020.

The MGRC will be an independent body, and it will be able to set its own terms other than for the limitations and the reporting requirements that are explicitly stated in ZIP-1014.
