Zcash are not currently accepting any kind of grants.  They are waiting the formation of the Major Grant Review Committee to get some guidance in the process of their future grant strategy.

Therefore, it is important to clarify that Zecwallet’s infrastructure are funded by the previous Foundation grant. 

Since the previous grant was approved, Zecwallet have launched their mobile apps and further improved their light clients to a great extent. This in turn has improved the usage of Zecwallet.  The ZECWallet is creating strain on the Zecwallet’s cloud infra for light clients.

Therefore, it is considered important to upgrade Zecwallet’s cloud infrastructure into a set up that is highly available with load balancing and failovers across different data centers.  This ensures that the Zecwallet users have an uninterrupted way to access thier Zcash at all times.

ZECWallet tweeted:  “Thanks to a ZcashFoundation grant, Zecwallet will significantly improve our lightclient infrastructure to improve speed and reliability of Zecwallet.”

The Light client requires several pieces of software infrastructure and all of these will be running in the cloud.  Currently, the infra is in a primary-secondary setup in a single region of AWS.  This is to ensure cost optimization.  This approach they say is likely to lead to random infra failures in the cloud.

Sydney Ifergan, the crypto expert tweeted: “When an upgrade is required whether for ZECWallet or for the ZCash Network it has to happen.  Frowning over upgrades never helps.  To get to the next step upgrades are crucial.”

Zcash (ZEC) Prevent Single Point Failures

The new upgrade approach is set to run multiple and redundant instances of zcashd.  This will be the forefront of multiple redundant instances of Lightwalletd. Further, the upgrade will be run across multiple AWS regions, with appropriate load balancing and failovers across multiple datacenters.  This will be done to remove any kind of single point failures.

To ensure deliverable Zecwallet will be purchasing the additional infra across the AWS regions and the required SSL certs, making improvements to the infrastructure and further will be deploying it. This is expected to reduce downtime for Zecwallet users, permitting uninterrupted access for Zecwallet users to their ZEC wallets.

For those who do not know, Zcash shielded addresses and transaction data like the sender and receiver data and the amount sent are encrypted.  This means that despite the transactions getting verified on the public blockchain, no person will be able to see the data inherent in these transactions. Thus it is considered to be the strongest privacy that can be facilitated and also it is one of the best things about ZCash.
