SiaCoin (SC) Empowering Digital Rights As Human Rights in Uganda with Blockchain Based Skyfeed

Sia recently pointed to how to believe in decentralization is to de-center ourselves from the narrative and enable local leaders to decide what’s best for their communities. Further that, decentralization isn’t just what we do, it’s how we do it.

Sia pointed to how during the Uganda’s elections, incumbent President Yoweri Museveni announced a country-wide internet shutdown and this meant that that it was focused to work like a national social media ban just days before the elections.

The historical censorship and violence under Museveni is a very strong authoritarian message to the world, which emphasized on how digital rights are not human rights.  This was terrifying as during the shutdown of the internet users were not able to reach out to their family and friends.

Decentralization of technology is to basically decentralize power to restoring that power to everyday people.  This is also about de-centering the crypto and web3 community from directing how the technology should be adopted at a local level.

De-centering is crucial for the whole world.  This does not mean that marginalized people outside of the West need to be losers. It is important to have marginalized people empowered. Brands should “save” the less fortunate as it is the best thing to do.

SiaCoin (SC) on Digital Rights and Human Rights

Sia Blog narrates on how Uganda can get back online when local leaders are deciding what is best for their communities.

For Ugandans to get back online, they say:  “The more nodes, the further the connection spreads, creating a wireless ‘cloud of connectivity’ that can serve a small office or a city of millions.”

While the P2P mesh networks are one tangible solution for restoring internet access, it is not going to be possible for the users to view the banned social media pages.

However, they claim that this is where decentralized social media apps on Skynet like SKyfeed will be able to help the users in the interim. Since SkyFeed is decentralized, the platform is surveillance-free and censorship-resistant and therefore a great way to communicate.

They have also stated that the Skynet Labs are open to do anything which it will be possible by them to support Ugandan developers who will be interested in building decentralized applications for their communities. The apps which are using public Skynet portals making use of Skynet’s storage foundation and infrastructure are owned by their respective developers and in the end they are trying to establish that Digital rights and freedom of expression are universal human rights!
