Ethereum Classic (ETC) doing all it takes to come out of the Precarious Position Created by 51% Attacks

Ethereum Classic ETC Attacks

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a cryptocurrency with smart contracts, which respects immutability and neutrality.

Donald McIntyre recently interviewed Alex Tsankov about the “SHA3 Classic Coalition”—a group of ETC engineers and participants implementing Keccak, Astor testnet, and deploying them Ethereum Classic mining algorithm. The Ethereum Classic SHA3 Coalition and Upgrade.

Historic 51% attacks on ETC, according to Alex Tsankov was the antecedent and motivation to start the SHA 3 Classic Coalition.  This to provide for ETC to be the leader in the SHA 3 based mining algorithm.

The other constituents are Exchanges, Node operators, Miners, and Mining Pools.  For clarity, ETC Cooperative: Hyperledger Besu client; IOHK: Mantis client; ETC Labs: Core Geth client.

The next steps to implement SHA3 on ETC is to Integrate it in Hyperledger Besu, Create a testnet for anyone to test it, Invite the Mantis and Core Geth client teams to join the testnet, Once it is safe and tested, to set a future block number to upgrade ETC, and Communicate and coordinate with miners, exchanges, node operators, and mining pools.

The new Mantis is expected to bring in more security and stability to the Ethereum Classic ecosystem.  Ethereum Classic continues to preserve an untampered history, which is free from external interference. As a next-generation digital currency, eth_classic permits developers to build the next wave of decentralized applications (DApps). Mantis: Security and Stability for ETC

The goal of ETC is to securely and methodically establish a strong ecosystem with solid foundation and core immutability. The recent 51% attacks have put the ETC ecosystem into a precarious position thus, decreasing its confidence and putting forth the challenges and testing the community’s ability to address this issue.  Thus, representing an existential threat to its future viability.

Of note, IOHK has been associated with Ethereum Classic (ETC) and its community for quite some time.  This preserves the untampered history free and making it free from external interference and subjective altering of transactions.

While serving as the next-generation digital currency platform, the ETC are built as an intuitive programming platform, which permits developers of all skill sets to build the next wave of market disrupting decentralized applications (DApps).

Important to note, New Mantis is the only client that is written natively for Ethereum Classic and it is expected to drive innovation and future growth for the ETC. A lot of future development is expected to evolve to be further tested by the community to ultimately reprove themselves to the rest of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
