David Vorick of Siacoin (SC) SkyNet on Why Google are Contacting Their Hosting Provider

David Vorick expressed:  Google is now contacting our hosting providers and requesting they pull our servers due to malware being distributed through the file-sharing layer. Google has too much power.

Chris Schinnerl, VP of Technology, stated:  We don’t know because Google didn’t tell the provider what the malicious content was. They only told them to take down the specified IP. Almost impossible to comply with that.

Community response:  All this means is that Sia/Skynet is being noticed, and so it should be. Continue to fight the good fight!

I’m working on a decentralized version of YouTube right now; my most significant risk IS Google. They do have too much power, but TBH, I’m not sure there is a solution.

No matter how much you put onto the blockchain, you still need REST, graphQL & elastic search. As such, you still need web servers, which means you need centralized hosts. What we really need is a decentralized backend. It doesn’t have to be on-chain; the core data can be on-chain.

Please, Make a better Internet 2.0.  I mean, is malware being distributed through your software? If they’re lying, you can sue. If they’re good stewards, then they’re fine. Since you can see, they don’t have too much power.

Google will likely identify any competition to their dominance as “malware.” But they are the “good guys.”

Expect many more attacks and for them to increase in severity. You built a network representing freedom, specifically the freedom to share information, even more specifically the privilege to share the report, which runs counter to the propaganda narratives pushed on us all by media.

And unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last two years, wrong think and counter-narratives are just about at the point of being banned globally, especially if they’re related to accurate but damning information. Sia is a threat to the monopoly on narrative/information propaganda.

Google is Evil. Pure and simple. They will try to stymie and strangle any attempt to challenge their dominance. But, do not get discouraged; the silent majority are pretty fed up with the amount of control the companies have. Bad information will get more pervasive until we have better tools to identify it.

One needs to make sure it always remains trivial for anyone to run a node on general-purpose hardware. Deepen the partnership.
