Bitcoin (BTC) is 60 minutes and AVAX is 0.7349 Seconds in TPS

Sirer seemed to be excited about Avalanche (AVAX) processing more average transactions per second than Bitcoin.

Emin Gun Sirer expressed:  We surpassed Bitcoin in transactions per second, with a heck of a lot more room to go. But TPS is not a good metric, we should measure time to finality, where BTC is 60 minutes and AVAX is 0.7349 seconds.

Community response:  Why compare with BTC, it’s make no sense. Please elaborate.

Okay now compare to Stellar? Stellar network is extremely centralised buddy. There is nothing to compare between them.

Are we back in 2017? Weird argument to be making IMO, totally different use cases/ properties between AVAX and BTC. Clearly BTC (base layer) is not trying to be the fastest chain.

Did you even read the whole thing, he was talking about finality, which is very important, regardless of what chain you are?

Yes, I read it. Bitcoin is slower, has less throughput, etc. by design – that debate was settled in 2017.

It’s also a much more well-known blockchain, it’s cool that Avalanche has hit this mark. Regardless of the speed and finality differences. Other alternative L1s are ghost chains in reality.

Congratulations. You’re Dan Larimer.

No, he’s a brilliant scientist known for his contributions to peer-to-peer systems, operating systems and computer networking, a professor at Cornell and an innovator. Now, who are you?

Now do lightning? Why don’t we stay decentralized?

But we know that best technology doesn’t always translate to mass adoption. How will Avalanche get the masses?

By Avalanche digitizing most of the assets with AVAX.  He is objective and agnostic about research metrics, wonder where time to finality fits in his research.  Next time compare apples to apples please sir.  You have it all figured out.

You beat the TRS-80 of blockchain respect. Now onward.  AVAX comes fast is what I’m hearing. Do you really think the smart investors will sell money to buy a centralized coin?

Negative Response:  Give us a break Emin. Your reputation went down the toilet a few years ago and now your support of yet another shitty project as CEO just made things even worse for you. Hopefully you are being paid well for your new position as it and other things ruined your reputation.

No Sovereign Wealth fund is ever going to hold as a reserve asset on their balance sheet, some shitcoin made by some with a Twitter account. You can never recreate the circumstances bitcoin was forged under. Ever. Don’t compare your SC with BTC.
