David Vorick Expressed:  Still blows my mind: when we initially launched Sia, we didn’t have any persistence. The whole blockchain was kept in memory and at start up you synced the entire chain from scratch. If at any point all nodes had crashed simultaneously, the whole blockchain would have been lost.

We were 21 and we said “bah it’ll be fine”. It was fine. But no, I would not take that approach again.

Google announcing today that they are as much as doubling prices on some of their cloud storage products. If it’s not decentralized, you have no control over whether it will remain viable.

It’s worth saying multiple times: If you think PoW’s energy consumption should be regulated, regulate it by adding a tax on top of corporate unclean electricity use. + doesn’t crush innovation + lots free revenue for govt. + encourages R&D for clean energy.

Excited to be launching the Open Defense Fund alongside heavyweight web3 builders.  There’s no more important time than now to be building out decentralized, people-empowering technology for the Internet.

Excited to release the source code of the Skynet Kernel.  The kernel is a browser extension that gives the user a trusted environment to run decentralized applications and query decentralized APIs.

The kernel gives users all the security benefits of running a full blockchain node on their computer at home with all of the convenience of a webapp that ‘just works’.

There’s no question in my mind that the kernel is a huge step forward in the security/convenience tradeoff for web3 users. We have used novel technology to give the users access to both in a way that has never been possible before.

By pulling themselves off of the Internet, Russia has proven that they do not care about using cryptocurrency to evade sanctions.

We have launched two new Skynet portals.  The two new portals are signup-only, and will provide more speed and reliability to power users. Siasky will remain open access.

In a just world, users should not need to KYC or send their data to Big Brother to be allowed to use the Internet.

Community Reaction: How do you deter and prevent bad actors in this world?

David Responded:  We are a small team. Our largest fundraise ever was only $3 million. But we’re not out of the game. We are going to continue to fight, we are going to continue to build, and we are going to bring the world a decentralized web that guarantees citizens their basic digital rights.
