Previously, on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, Members of Congress give Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky a standing ovation before he spoke in a virtual address to the Congress in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center Congressional Auditorium in Washington.

Ukraine stated that it had received some unusual support in its fight against Russian invasion by the form of cryptocurrency donations.  It is noteworthy that people from across the world donated millions of dollars directly to Ukraine’s war efforts in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and others.  Ukrainian officials began calling these donations in late February, shortly after Russia’s invasion.

Further, Ukraine passed a law which created a legal framework for the cryptocurrency industry in the country. The law permitted foreign and Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchanges to be able to operate legally.

As on March 26, 2022, Ukraine’s government stated that they have taken almost $67 million of their $200 million goal in cryptocurrencies.

Alex Bornyakov, deputy minister for digital transformation stated that “crypto is playing a significant role in Ukraine’s defense.”

About $34 million of the funds received as of last week has been spent. About 80 percent of the donations have been converted to traditional money. The rest of the amount has been used to pay for merchants who accept cryptocurrencies.

Michael Chobanian, the founder of a Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchange stated that they are managing the Ukrainian government’s donations through an informal agreement.

Reportedly, Ukraine has been buying so much stuff that is saving lives every single day and also are stopping the aggression.

Early this month, CNBC reported that, Ukraine raised more than $54 million in bitcoin donations to support the war against Russia. Also, donations came in the form of NFTs and Stable coins.

On February 27, 2022, CZ Binance:  Binance is donating $10M to help the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine &  BinanceCF launched the crypto-first crowdfunding Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund. Our focus is providing on-the-ground support. We just care about the people.

Justin Sun, Founder of Tron, called blockchain donations 100% transparent. He said that donating through intermediaries results in corporate profit for banks. Sun stated that the efforts for Ukraine are a transformational moment for humanitarian aid.

On March 02, 2022 Antoni Trenchev:  Starting today and lasting for the next 30 days, we pledge to match 100% of all customer donations from Nexo wallets and 200% of all Nexo employee donations to Ukraine’s official Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and Polkadot cryptocurrency addresses, up to a total of $500,000.

On March 03, 2022 Ripple:  Ripple stands with Ukraine against the Russian invasion. We will also be matching Ripple employees’ donations $2-1 to NGOs and humanitarian non-profits, AND are working with our exchange and NGO partners – and the global XRP community – to develop a crypto-to-cash direct giving program that will provide aid to Ukrainian families.
