Olly Stedall expressed:  Time for a DigiNode update. I am working on an “official”install script that will setup your DigiNode for you. You won’t have to use it, but if you do it will make sure that files are in the right place to work perfectly with the status monitor.

My original plan was to only target the Pi 4, but I am now trying to make sure it can monitor any Linux-based Digibyte node. My Pi is running Ubuntu server 21.04 64bit so it may need some tweaks to make it work with other distros.

The DigiNode monitor script will perform some checks at launch to make sure it is able to monitor the existing Digibyte node. If it can’t, it will tell you where the problem is. (Screen shot at top of thread)

My hope with these scripts is that even if you have never used Linux before you should be able to setup a Pi4 based DigiNode with ease. You also won’t need a keyboard or display attached to your Pi – you will just SSH into the machine from your laptop and type ‘digimon’.

Initially the monitor script will just let you know that everything is running correctly, but hopefully later (if I can figure out how to make it work!) it will also occasionally check GitHub for updates and help you install them with a single key press. Nodetastic!

Running a DigiNode (DigiByte Core + DigiAssets Metadata server) is a great way to support the DigiByte network. You can run it on your laptop, but better yet use a dedicated device that is online 24/7. For that reason the Pi 4 is a great option.

Since it gives you a full copy of the DigiByte blockchain, you can improve your privacy by connecting your wallet to your own node. Also the DigiAssets metadata server will soon let you create your own DigiAssets directly on your own node via the web UI.

It is my belief that everyone in the Digibyte community should run their own DigiNode but it can be intimidating to set up for non-techies. My hope with this project is to make it as easy as possible for everyone to get up and running.

User response:  Just received my Pi, so you are telling me I can just run that script and then I’m done? Thank you for facilitating my laziness.

Olly Stedall:  That’s the plan! Now I just have to figure out how to make that happen.
