Under the current scenario, every kind of blockchain technology team is working towards contract tracing for COVID prevention. A lot of strong opinions and strong feelings doing the rounds.
ZCash (ZEC) previously tweeted: "We've seen what happened in the aftermath of other crises, like 9/11, where new surveillance infrastructure gave more power to the very institutions whose failure created the crisis." Also expressed, “Privacy technologists, in particular cryptographers, have the right skill set to develop decentralized contact-tracing *without* massive surveillance.”
Wilkox Zooko tweeted: "A lot of people I know are experiencing a lot of fear and anger, about the pandemic crisis and/or the government responses. (Including me, some days.) If you're having that, I hope that watching this 30-minute interview might serve as a partial antidote.” He further recommends watching the video and warns that it might arouse some discomfort and clarifies that the discomfort is “wrong” “Dangerous” or “anti-social” and states that it is difficult to understand what part of it is discomfort. He calls it a feeling of cognitive dissonance.
Wilkox Zooko, the founder of ZCash, points out to a 30-minute interview with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor of medicine at Stanford University, regarding understanding the coronavirus in detail and the economic implications of the virus.
Sydney Ifergan, the crypto expert, tweeted: "Cognitive Dissonance as pointed out by Zcash Founder Wilkox Zooko is worth the reflection in thoughts regarding COVID-19."
The interview is a plague time edition of "Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson." Dr. Jay was questioned about how bad, is it?
Dr. Jay was questioned, "If it is true that the coronavirus would kill millions without shelter-in-place orders and quarantines, then the extraordinary measures are surely justified. But there is little evidence to confirm that premise."
Dr. Jay stated that it is a very strange thing to say and states, “We actually do not know how many people have been infected.” He stated that it is difficult despite a lot of data around. He establishes that the current testing is based on people who actively have the virus.
Talking about the measured case fatality rate: total number of new deaths due to disease and the total (numerator) number of incident patients with the disease (denominator). The problem Dr. Jay states is that the denominator does not include people who got infected and overcome it.
The Wall Street Journal published: "An Epidemic seed on January 1 implies that by March 9 about six million people in the US would have been infected. As of March 23, there were 499 Covid-19 deaths in the US, which is a Mortality rate of 0.01%.”
Dr. Jay establishes in the interview that nobody knows the number.
Zcash called their developers to develop a contact tracing app without putting privacy of users to stakes. Waiting!
