Emin Gun Sirer of Avalanche (AVAX) on power of Subnet-EVM

Emin Gun Sirer Expressed:  It’s easy to see why the launch of Subnet-EVM is an incredible milestone for the Avalanche community. The dawn of subnets is upon us. That said, I see this as a pivotal moment for the broader blockchain community.

Smart contracts have underpinned the amazing innovation in blockchains over the last five years. Subnets will be the next growth engine in crypto, enabling novel functionality only possible with network-level control and open experimentation on a scale we haven’t yet seen.

The talent flooding into blockchains brings an entrepreneurial spirit that will create many more unicorns, but more importantly, a fresh perspective as the entire Web3 community brings these technologies to the masses.

In the early days, experimentation was easy. The financial and reputational stakes were low. Today, the time and attention investments in blockchains are at unprecedented levels. This is a welcome trend for everyone who has been tirelessly building for the last decade.

That said, all of that attention brings an enormous amount of pressure. Pressure that can stifle innovation and necessary risk taking to create the next breakthrough.

Subnets enable individuals or institutions to create custom blockchains that are tailored to their precise needs. Stringent regulatory mandates? Make your chain compliant by design. Want to use your app’s governance token to pay for gas fees? Subnet.

Subnets are a blank canvas that handle all of the hardest parts of building a new blockchain – namely the consensus engine, security, and network effects – so builders can focus on creating new value with their own secret sauce or moonshot idea.

Projects that begin as experiments on subnets will honor the early pioneers who led the charge towards a decentralized future, reclaiming the core ethic of embracing disruption to benefit everyone, rather than a select few.

It is impossible to overstate my excitement. After a professional lifetime dedicated to the promise of decentralized systems, the future has never felt brighter or more limitless than it does today.

And subnets are just getting started.

Community Reaction:  So essentially each app can be it’s own subnet and run much more efficiently. Like Trader Joe can have it’s own subnet which operates like a L2 to AVAX.

Wow. So what would the user experience look like? And where does the c-chain fall into things? Trader Joe token is a c-chain contract address, if they made their own subnet what does that look like for current infrastructure?

Any subnet would need to bridge to Primary Network (C-chain) to connect to AVAX ecosystem and also bridge to other blockchains to connect to the space.

Will we be able to add other non-EVM down the road? Yep. Core platform is agnostic so other VMs (eg. WASM) can be built on Avalanche.
