Shane shared: I finally got all my Bitcoin off the exchanges only to lose it in a boating accident. I’m devastated!
Community Response: The boat joke only works with privacy coins… makes no sense with bitcoin… The whole point is saying “oh I lost my coins can’t pay taxes” and then actually spending those coins. Tell me how you plan on doing that with surveillance Big brother coins like bitcoin?
Sorry to hear but if you call the Bitcoin Hotline they might be able to help! Or contact the CEO directly. Boat accidents tend to happen a lot recently.
You can’t lose BTC, just your key. This means that technically you still have it until you sell it… This means you can be treated as such.
I never understood this joke. If you hold it, you don’t pay taxes. If you want to sell it, you’ll have to send it to a centralized exchange that will report your sale to the IRS. That kind of defeats the whole losing it in a boating accident idea.
I’m sorry friend, I know how hard it can be but you have no choice but to move on and continue accumulating Bitcoin, as long as there is life there is hope.
If anyone asks, I was also on the same boat, and also lost all of my bitcoin.
How do you lose it in an accident? His shoelaces came loose while was reading his crypto wallet device’s LCD. He tripped and the device flew overboard. I hear that’s a common way crypto holders who go on boats LOSE their crypto.
Some folks have their wallet tied to their rifle and lose both in the same accident.
If you have your seed phrase you should be able to get a new wallet and your coins will be there.
But my bitcoin was transferred to my wallet, sadly my phone went down with the boat.
How anyone loses Bitcoin in a boat accident, there can be a paper with your keys or what?
And they say there can only ever be 21 million Bitcoin. It is far less than 21 million as we continually read about #BTC being lost forever like in this scenario.
It’s an alright joke but I’m kind of seriously interested in how you launder on an immutable ledger.
Do you have your keywords stuck on the ledger or why they are gone?
I`ll leave my Bitcoin on the exchange. It looks safer. You never know when I catch a boating accident.
Hope everything you lost is recovered soon! Come back stronger.
The most basic rule of crypto is to have a safely stashed backup of your keys,
Sorry for your loss brother. The same thing happened to me last week in El Salvador and now have to start again from zero.
Oh, man crazy story, even crazier is the fact we just saw the funds moving on the blockchain. I guess it’s because the boat you had your accident on is also moving. Don’t use surveillance coins kids!
Could have been worse you could have donated some of it to the trucker’s freedom convoy only for it to end up in the hands of the police.
How does Bitcoin become loose? When it becomes loose how one does tighten it?
Shane, imagine my clumsiness: I had all my Bitcoin on a boat AND all my firearms…and I ended up swimming to shore after a day on the water. Shucks. That boat!
So strange. Me too. I had all my bitcoins in my pocket but when the boat capsthey them all fell out and went to the bottom of the bay. I’m looking into renting diving equipment.
