Blockworks shared: Goldman Sachs: The metaverse is an 8 dollars trillion revenue opportunity.
For clarity, Metaverse is considered as the next generation of the internet, the metaverse refers broadly to a virtual world where humans interact through three-dimensional avatars that can be controlled via virtual reality headsets.
Community Response: All tech giants are running behind this metaverse opportunity. And if you’re wondering what is the Metaverse. Here you go.
Facebook has renamed itself to Meta. Meta as for Metaverse is considered as the next version of the Internet. So, what is Metaverse? And how it will replace the current internet? I went down the rabbit hole…
The metaverse has NOTHING to do with Facebook or Mr. Mark Zuckerberg. The metaverse is decentralized and community-owned. The opposite of ‘meta’ centralized zuckbullcrap.
So ambitious of you to think that the tech and financial whales will let it be “decentralized” and “community-owned”. This will only leave them and their institutions behind which they won’t allow.
Big tech is watching crypto and NFTs are being built and they are following the trends from the outside looking in. They are not leading them.
Watching from the outside, it will not be the only action they will be taking or else they will be missing out on an (acclaimed) multi-trillion dollar industry. The whole system revolves around the big corporations and it will not be easy taking them down with NFTs and crypto coins.
Heads up. The HUGE NEWS No One is talking about? Tone Vays, 1st Crypto/SEC Atty, Prolific Crypto Plaintiff’s Atty & Reggie Middleton on Defi Patents.
This shows as of 2020 it was almost 3/4 of a Trillion (close to 50% of prediction) – hardly a failure. Maybe Meta won’t get to prediction but if it does half, that’s a decent knock. Shoot for the moon and die in space.
What’s the difference between metaverse and VR?
Hard to explain. I feel as if the best way to put it is, what we have today virtually, Video games, movies and tv streaming, social media, music, and much more and layering it all on top of each other in one interconnected experience.
I mean it is just VR with sound, the metaverse portrayed by ready player one isn’t just about vision and sound but we can feel it, touch it. I feel like this metaverse thing is just a rebrand of VR honestly, at least for me.
Big tech companies are going to lead the way in the metaverse.
SolomonPrimeEXE was given this context, how do you feel about Microsoft paying $70b for all of Activision’s IP and user base? Thinking of this as strictly a gaming MNA, is IMO missing the real opportunity.
Doesn’t move me. An ecosystem play is still just an ecosystem play regardless of whether they are competing with Sony or Meta.
I think you are underselling the size of the ecosystem. The metaverse combines gaming, music, art, film into one giant ecosystem. The race is now on for content for your ecosystem.
They’ll have us eating sludge piped in by McDonald’s, collect our excitement to be used as fertilizer, whilst we stay plugged in… BTC fixes this. As much as I love my OG! Not down with the capture, these huge companies are after.
The Metaverse is an opportunity for people to regain digital sovereignty. Seems like a very Facebook-ey plan. They made a good point in the article. How exactly are they going to store all that data securely?
Metaverse has already been subverted for capitalist means. The only pure crypto implementation left is BTC. And that isn’t going to change. Metaverse will be worth the same as Second Life in 10 years. BTC will likely be over 1mm.
Decentraland (MANA) is going to lead the metaverse market.
I’m an investor in various metaverse projects. But to be honest, we are far away from an 8 trillion-dollar market. In my opinion, the metaverse is already heavily overvalued. If the meta ever takes off, it’s going to be in 3rd world countries, not the west.
I think it’s going to be the exact opposite friend. Going to be mainly in the west and very little known in the 3rd world countries.
