Litecoin (LTC) Is Now Accepted To Pay Utility Bills City of Williston North Dakota

Litecoin Utility Bills

Litecoin Foundation pointed to how the city of Williston, North Dakota now accepts Litecoin and other crypto as a payment for utility bills.

Hercules Cummings, Finance Director expressed, “We are the first municipality in the State of North Dakota, and the third in the nation, to offer this service.”

Further it has been stated that, Currently, utility bill payments are the only bills eligible to be paid with cryptocurrency. Quality assessments will be conducted, and volumes evaluated, before migrating other bills such as landfill, permits, and licenses.

Individuals will have to establish a digital wallet directly with BitPay or through other services like Coinbase or Binance. Anytime the individuals pay with cryptocurrency, the transaction gets locked-in at exchange rate. Reportedly, BitPay uses modern technology to convert the Bitcoin into fiat while shielding the customer from any volatility risks.

Also, Litecoin foundation expressed:  The annual carbon footprint of PoW coins measured in terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity. Litecoin is proving itself once again! BTC: 114 TWh ETH: 44 TWh DOGE: 7.8 TWh BCH: 3.4 TWh LTC: 3.2 TWh.

Many felt these numbers were not worthy and that this just adds to a false debate.

Some users stated, but this isn’t something that’s inherent to Litecoin or any of the other PoW coins. It’s just that more people/organizations have decided to mine BTC and ETH than DOGE/BCH/LTC.

Few understand this. They love to show numbers that are irrelevant. Correctly speaking they need to scale the coin to the same as BTC and then show the – all POW all the same.

It is a bandwagon of cryptos who are trying to establish that they are environment friendly. Some feel it is important to divide the power consumption by the market cap to make it more comparable.

To be fair it is important to mention how much volume is moved on each chain. It’s obvious that if there is nothing going on, there is no consumption, isn’t it?

Another users replied stating, A really disingenuous post and you know it. Be careful perpetuating this nonsense. The profitability of mining Bitcoin requires much cheaper electric than Litecoin. This means you need surplus/stranded. You can mine LTC off the grid. Doge is mix mined! crazy math.

A large part of carbon footprint would be related to utilization. So the only interesting point here is that DOGE will be having a larger footprint than LTC and BCH. However, a memecoin is gonna be a meme
