For those who are new:  Skynet collects cryptographic protocols used to store and retrieve data over the Internet.

Skynet is an alternative infrastructure for the Internet, which provides similar functionality except that all the data is user-controlled instead of corporation-controlled.

Like the Internet, several interesting applications on Skynet are web applications that can be viewed by using a web browser. Skynet applications can be social media apps like the sky feed, storage apps, or anything else, which can be built on the traditional web. Skynet apps can also be the normal desktop apps or mobile apps.

The data model of Skynet sets it apart from the rest of the Internet. On the traditional web, data is kept on the centralized servers, managed by website operators. When the website goes down, the data becomes unavailable. And, this means that the website admins will be able to see all of the data, and they will have the ability to change or delete the data at their discretion.

When it comes to reading data, there is a need to get permission from the website operator, thus providing the operator with control over the kind of apps which can be built, which means the apps which use that data. It is only when the users disappear the website goes down as the Skynet users control information.
