Avalanche (AVAX) has reached 1000 Validators and why is it a Big Deal? Min 25 AVAX Delegation

  • 1000 Avalanche validators milestone achieved
  • AVAX staking
  • Avalanche Blockchain secured by stake
  • AVAX reward – currently up to 10.38% APR
  • 2000 AVAX prerequisite staking
  • Min delegation amount is 25 AVAX

Connor Daly, smart contract developer at Ava Labs expressed:  A toast is in order.  Avalanche (AVAX) has reached 1000 validators.  Here are five must-know facts about Avalanche validators and why you want to become a validator 1001.

Validators are the proof-of-stake equivalent of proof-of-work miners. They are the guardians of the blockchain.

Each validator stakes their AVAX and votes on the validity of each transaction across the X, C, and P-Chains.

Unlike in proof-of-work, there’s no wasted effort. Every validator computation goes towards improving the security of the network. Because of this.

Avalanche is the most energy efficient blockchain protocol. The entire network’s energy use is on par with 1000 home desktop computers. Other chains use as much energy as entire countries.

Avalanche isn’t secured by energy expenditure. It’s secured by stake. Today, there’s over $2 billion securing the network.

All it takes to become a validator is 2000 AVAX and an ordinary computer. You need a modern CPU and 4 GB of RAM. No specialized hardware required.

For those gasping at the 2000 AVAX prerequisite, fear not. That number will change in the future when on-chain governance goes live. Personally, I’d like to see that number at around the 1000 USD equivalent.

Let’s say you think the Avalanche network is secure enough already. Why should you become a validator now? Well.

Staking rewards are in return for their work, stakers earn an AVAX reward (currently up to 10.38% APR). There’s also no slashing in Avalanche, so even if your validator goes comatose, your funds are not at risk.

Why is 1000 validators a big deal? The more validators we have, the more decentralized our network and the more secure it gets.

For Avalanche to decentralize, the majority of the stake can’t be in the hands of a few whales or colluding mining collectives. It needs to be in the hands of ordinary people, each running node, all across the globe.

What’s the next step? How about 10,000 validators? For everything else, you need to know to become an Avalanche developer, check out my pinned tweet and give me a follow.

For those waiting for the minimum staking amount to come down, you can get in on the action now by delegating to a validator. Your stake helps secure the network and earns a similar reward. Min delegation amount is 25 AVAX.
