As crypto markets move sideways, speculation is heating up again around two of the largest altcoins: XRP and Ethereum (ETH). Both are eyeing significant psychological price targets—$10 for XRP and $10,000 for ETH—but which one will get there first? In a unique thought experiment, four of the most widely used AI platforms—ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Grok—were asked the same question: Will XRP hit $10 before ETH reaches $10,000? The answers were surprisingly aligned, with all four leaning toward Ethereum as the more likely winner of this long-term race.

Historically, Ethereum has come closer to its $10K goal. ETH surged to nearly $4,900 in 2021 during the last bull run, while XRP’s all-time high remains around $3.40, briefly retested earlier in 2025. While both cryptocurrencies would need a price gain of approximately 300% to reach their respective targets, AI consensus points to Ethereum having stronger momentum and better fundamentals for reaching that level first. According to the AI responses, Ethereum benefits from a more established ecosystem, ongoing technological upgrades, and stronger institutional interest. ChatGPT and Gemini emphasized the role of institutional adoption, noting that an increasing number of companies are now holding ETH as a reserve asset—some even replacing Bitcoin in their portfolios.

The recent approval of spot Ethereum ETFs has also added fuel to ETH’s bullish case. According to the AIs, this development, combined with Ethereum’s central role in decentralized finance (DeFi), NFTs, and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, provides a robust foundation for further growth. Gemini concluded that Ethereum reaching $10,000 seems more probable in the medium term, supported by diverse demand drivers and a lower percentage gain needed compared to XRP.

However, XRP isn’t without hope. While the AIs agreed ETH has the upper hand, they also outlined conditions under which XRP could hit $10 before ETH reaches five digits. Much of XRP’s potential hinges on regulatory clarity in the United States and the possible approval of a U.S.-based spot XRP ETF. The AI models noted that Ripple’s recent legal victories over the SEC and its ongoing efforts to resolve remaining issues have boosted investor confidence in the project.

One factor that could play a major role in XRP’s future is institutional adoption for cross-border payments. Gemini pointed out that XRP’s path to $10 is highly dependent on widespread use by banks and payment providers. Grok echoed this, adding that Ripple’s recent $1.2 billion acquisition of prime brokerage firm Hidden Road could significantly enhance XRP’s credibility and trust among institutional investors. This acquisition was labeled a “game-changer” by the community, highlighting Ripple’s commitment to expanding its financial footprint.

Another crucial variable is the potential approval of a spot XRP ETF in the U.S.—a move that, according to prediction markets like Polymarket, has over a 90% chance of happening. If approved, this could unlock regulated institutional access to XRP, allowing hedge funds, asset managers, and retail investors to gain exposure through traditional financial vehicles. All four AI platforms agreed that such a development could catalyze a sharp upward move in XRP’s price.

Despite the optimism surrounding both tokens, market conditions remain a significant wildcard. While Ethereum seems poised to benefit from technological and financial sector developments, XRP’s progress will likely depend on key regulatory decisions and continued execution by Ripple. As of early July 2025, ETH is trading around $2,600, while XRP hovers near $2.30. Both would require substantial gains—285% for ETH and roughly 335% for XRP—to hit their respective targets.

Ultimately, the AI-generated consensus is clear: Ethereum is the stronger candidate to reach its milestone first. Yet, XRP remains the dark horse in this race, with potential catalysts that could dramatically shift the landscape. In crypto, momentum can turn quickly, especially when legal clarity and institutional money converge at the right moment. While ETH may have the structural edge, XRP isn’t out of the race—and if Ripple’s recent moves pay off, it might surprise the entire market.

Whether you’re an ETH bull or an XRP believer, one thing is certain: both cryptocurrencies are on a collision course with major price milestones. The next few months could determine which one crosses the finish line first.
