SECP Upgrade is the new Cardano cryptographic primitive that is focused on bringing in greater interoperability and secure cross-chain DApp development. This upgrade will make it very easy for developers to build cross-chain applications.

Input Output expressed:  “The next Cardano upgrade targeted for February will bring new built-in functions to Plutus, the smart contract programming language for the Cardano blockchain, to support ECDSA and Schnorr cryptographic signatures to make it easier for developers to build cross-chain apps.

Different blockchains use different cryptographic signature methods, such as ECDSA and Schnorr signatures, which are used in Bitcoin and Ethereum, among others.

Cardano uses the Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm (EdDSA) with elliptic curve Curve25519 as its base curve (Ed25519) which is fast, secure and small in size, but not compatible with ECDSA and Schnorr.

This upgrade will bring greater interoperability and secure cross-chain DApp development to Cardano, making it easier for developers to work with other blockchains.

Developers would otherwise need to spend extra time, effort, and funds to implement ECDSA and Schnorr over the SECP elliptic curves in Plutus, increasing potential security risks and using an unrealistic amount of resources.

New built-in functions coming to Plutus will support these signatures to make it easier for developers to build cross-chain applications and provide the highest level of security.

Preparations have been underway for some time across the entire Cardano ecosystem, with positive results from integration testing.

This technology is now close to being deployed on the Cardano mainnet, with over 80% of block-producing nodes running the required new node.

Exchanges have already been notified of the upgrade and DApp developers have been polled to ensure compatibility. The upgrade is proposed tentatively for February 14, 2023.

Several investors are focused on money and only money.  They do not have a clue as to how can money keep growing every day. Some valuable work has to go into the process to make things work – there should be some contribution to the civilization. People should develop a real need for what the technology offers, the technology should be used real time and it is only then the value of the backing crypto will go up.  It is all about adoption.  This does not happen in a day.  There is a waiting time.  The critics are those who are not trying to understand technology, but those who know the importance of work and value in a project know the little steps and leaps and the waiting.
