Ripple’s XRP, one of the most well-known cryptocurrencies, is feeling the heat. After dropping below a crucial support level, XRP has Ignite concerns among investors, with many fearing further price declines. But is there a real risk of XRP crashing to zero? While the outlook may be bleak, it’s essential to look at the factors behind the drop and what could happen next.
XRP’s Recent Price Decline
As of today, XRP is trading at around $0.5289, reflecting a 3% decline in the last 24 hours. This marks a new weekly low for the cryptocurrency, and investors are increasingly anxious about its future performance. XRP’s struggles aren’t happening in isolation; the broader cryptocurrency market is also down by around 2.6%.
Much of the market’s woes can be traced back to Bitcoin’s recent dip below $67,000. As the largest and most influential cryptocurrency, Bitcoin’s movements often set the tone for other digital assets. When Bitcoin falters, altcoins like XRP tend to follow suit.
However, XRP’s issues go beyond market-wide volatility. The recent price drop has broken a key support level, raising concerns about further losses in the coming days. Many traders and investors are now left wondering whether XRP can recover or if worse is yet to come.
Why Is XRP in Danger?
There are several reasons behind the growing concern over XRP’s price. One of the most pressing issues is the breakdown of a critical support level, which has traditionally helped to stabilize XRP’s value. When an asset falls below a significant support point, it often signals further losses, and this is precisely what seems to be happening with XRP.
According to data from on-chain analytics firm Santiment, XRP’s profitability has taken a sharp hit in recent days. Between October 14 and October 23, the ratio of profitable transactions on the XRP ledger dropped significantly. This means that a growing number of traders are exiting their positions at a loss, contributing to the downward momentum.
Further exacerbating the situation is the fact that more XRP coins are now sitting at a loss. Just a few days ago, about 79% of XRP holders were in profit. That figure has now dropped to 74%, indicating that more investors are sitting on losses and may be looking to sell to prevent further damage to their portfolios.
Additionally, traders seem to be overwhelmingly bearish on XRP’s price. Data from Coinglass shows that on major exchanges like Binance, OKX, and Bybit, short positions far outweigh long positions. In total, around $76 million worth of shorts have been opened compared to $34 million in longs. This imbalance suggests that many traders are betting on further price declines, adding to the bearish outlook for XRP.
Could XRP Price Collapse to Zero?
Despite the grim market sentiment, the idea that XRP’s price could collapse entirely and drop to zero is highly unlikely. While XRP is certainly facing challenges, it remains one of the more established cryptocurrencies in the market, with a strong backing and a large user base.
That said, the price is currently in a short-term downtrend, following a breakdown from a rising wedge pattern. This technical formation is often seen as a sign of continued bearishness. The downward pressure has been consistent, and traders are clearly in selling mode, which has made it difficult for XRP to stage a recovery.
Looking ahead, XRP is likely to find support around the $0.50 to $0.505 range. If the price drops further, the next key support level is between $0.43 and $0.435. Should XRP fall to this range, it would represent an 18% drop from its current price. However, these support levels could also act as a floor, helping XRP stabilize and potentially reverse its current downward trend.
Legal Troubles Weigh on Ripple’s Future
Beyond the technical factors influencing XRP’s price, Ripple is also dealing with ongoing legal battles that have clouded its future. Ripple has been embroiled in a lawsuit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since 2020. The SEC alleges that Ripple conducted an unregistered securities offering through its sale of XRP, which has had a significant impact on investor confidence.
While the case is still ongoing, the uncertainty surrounding the lawsuit has continued to weigh heavily on XRP’s price. The latest twist involves a $10 million donation of XRP made by Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. This move has Ignite controversy within the crypto community, with some arguing that Ripple could face political complications down the road.
What’s Next for XRP?
The coming days and weeks will be crucial for XRP. While a collapse to zero is unlikely, the asset remains in a precarious position. If XRP can find support at the key levels mentioned earlier, it may be able to stage a recovery. However, if the broader market remains bearish and Ripple’s legal troubles continue to cast a shadow over the company, XRP could struggle to regain momentum.
Investors should remain cautious and keep a close eye on market conditions, particularly how XRP performs around its critical support levels. For now, XRP’s price may be in a rough patch, but it’s too early to declare a total collapse.
