The cryptocurrency renBTC provides a path to connect Ethereum DeFi to Bitcoin.  It is thus possible to access tokens from any blockchain using your existing smart contracts without having to worry about wrapping or unwrapping tokens.

Ren project achieved a lot of stuff in 2020 and they expect to do more in 2021.  Early in 2020, the entire focus of the Ren team was with the release of RenVM Sub-Zero, which is the first stable and production-ready version of mainnet. They launched it by the end of May 2020.  This launch is considered to be one of the major achievements of the project.

Lot of cross-chain assets moved between the chains by RenVM proving wider adoption into different DeFi applications like in Curve, Keeper DAO, My Ether Wallet, DeFi Bridge and more integrations getting announced every month.

During the first quarter of 2021, the Ren development team are set to roll out RenVM Sub-Zero version 0.3.0-alpha.  This version consists of all fixes, feature additions/changes, improvements, optimizations, and refactoring done since the initial release of RenVM Sub-Zero.  This will be the first versionreleased to the hands of third-party node operators outside the Ren team.  Ultimately, when all the fixes are done, RenVM consensus will be in the hands of the Greycore, and beyond control of the Ren team.

In Q2 or early Q3, rollout of RenVM Sub-Zero version 0.4.0 is expected to take place. Several other upgrades are also expected to set in during this time and a fees upgrade is also on the dice. New assets and chains are set to be supported for every quarter. A Documentation overhaul will also take place.

The movement of cross-chain assets between host chains will be enabled, thus providing for movement of renBTC between Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain without going back through Bitcoin. Bonding and bond redemption will also be upgraded.

The Ren Project is expected to be better in year 2021.

The CryptoBridge portal has been launched for the RenVM ecosystem and they have an aim to expand their educational materials along with information for the decentralized cross chain transfer protocol.

CryptoBridge have facilitated information videos, presentations, and materials to foster the expansion of the ecosystem.

In summary, RenVM, facilitates interoperability of decentralized applications, this making it possible for cross chain lending, collateralization and exchanging of assets.  The Darknodes earn rewards for contributing computing resources and storage space.
