Ripple XRPL Labs on xPoP Is Beyond Brilliant Making the Offline Receipt with QR Code

XRPL Labs expressed:  Proudly showing xPoP, “Proof of Payments” as presented by Richard at the Apex Dev Summit (location: XRPLF Tallinn, Estonia) xPoP generates an animated QR containing everything needed for *offline* (!) XRP Ledger transaction proof (vending/casino’s/…)”

As XRPL Labs aims to solve the “chicken/egg problem”, we started with 100% focus at end users & the ecosystem. We feel that it’s time to start focussing on retail as well. xPoP is one of the useful developments for future retail adoption, and so: for the entire ecosystem.

Because we are certain that this will benefit the entire ecosystem, XRPLLabs believes the xPoP intellectual property belongs with the XRP Ledger Foundation (XRPLF). We will work on xPoP some more and publish + transfer our source code when we feel it’s time for a public beta.

Community response:  This would be great for EV charging stations, many have connectivity issues. Imagine a side-chain controlled by multiple providers so users could have a prepaid App for all of them which would work with offline stations. It would safe a lot of costs in payments and infrastructure.

Each provider validator could sign the transactions independently as proof for their machines and the common side chain would make the system more robust, the connection to the public XRPL would help with FX so users can pay with multiple assets or currencies (or securities;)

In other words it’s like an offline receipt in the form of a QR code that can subsequently be read by XUMM to sign the ledger?

It is indeed an offline receipt in the form of an animated QR. The receipt contains everything from UNL & validation stream to the transaction. Signatures for all included. This QR can be stored or downloaded & presented (e.g. with XUMM). An offline device can scan & verify.

When you have a moment, check out the video. Everything will be explained and demonstrated.

This would also allow the vending machine to “send out” messages over the Internet through a users phone if you layer xPoP in an app w/ feedback functionality. Example: message sent to vend machine owner regarding machine status (inventory, functionality, etc) w/ every tx.

Amazing so im guessing 1000’s of random QR codes get install in its system then once XRPL ledger confirms payment it spits out one of those Codes (vouchers) that in return get fed to offline machine which then receives that (voucher) code and deploys your purchase.

This is such a brilliant concept and a joy to watch. The user experience could be optimized though — waiting for the machine to read the 10 sec code. Could you use NFC to hand off the receipt data?
