Shield has launched the first confidential onchain trading pair for Zcash (ZEC), allowing users to buy, sell, and provide liquidity for the asset while keeping their identity, portfolio, and trading strategies confidential. The new ZEC/USDCx pair operates on Shield’s non-custodial automated market maker (AMM) running on the Aleo network.

Confidential Trading Mechanics

The launch expands Shield’s supported markets by adding ZEC to its non-custodial wallet, enabling users to manage the asset alongside other supported holdings. The trading pair utilizes a concentrated-liquidity AMM model, where ZEC trades against USDCx, a dollar-denominated asset. This structure allows traders to move between ZEC and USDCx while liquidity providers supply capital within specific price ranges they select.

Shield Swap combines publicly verifiable market state with encrypted wallet records. Zero-knowledge proofs allow the Aleo network to verify that transactions follow protocol rules without exposing confidential wallet data. While pool reserves, prices, trade sizes, and fees remain publicly verifiable, wallet balances, portfolio composition, and the links between individual trades remain confidential. This design prevents public market data from providing a direct view into a participant’s broader portfolio or trading history.

Wallet Integration and Access

Shield’s non-custodial wallet now supports ZEC, allowing users to manage the asset and connect to Shield Swap for trading or liquidity provision. A one-click banner prompt moves assets into the wallet’s shielded balance, preparing them for trading. Wallet balances are held in encrypted records, and users retain full control of their keys and funds. Shield currently covers Aleo network fees for swaps, and the liquidity-provider fee is included in the quote before the user approves the trade.

Early access to the ZEC/USDCx market is open to eligible organizations and individual market participants. Shield states it is a technology provider and not a broker, dealer, or registered intermediary. The company does not provide investment, legal, tax, or other advice, and participants remain responsible for their trading decisions and compliance with applicable law. Users can access the market at swap.shield.fi or view documentation at shield.fi/docs.
