The Sia and Namebase, ‘Own the Internet’ Hackathon is set to end on August 19, 2020.

There are a lot of projects in the Hackathon like fvi-skynet-dao, fvi-skynet-client, LinkFrame – browser extension for Handshake, Adapt the StumbleUpon Stumble Bar for Handshake, HNS.FAQ.BOT, SkyDroid, skyhandshake, Distributed Host, SkynetShare and Skymask.

The Hackathon is focused on building the next-generation decentralized applications which are truly under control.  The event is focused on enabling the developers to build the next generation of decentralized applications.  The good thing is all developers whether beginners or Web3 experts are invited to this event.  The focus is to have a diverse group of developers who will be a part of the journey towards building truly open source and censorship resistant apps on the Skynet and Handshake.

Anyone who is trying to understand SiaCoin and Skynet should understand Handshake.  Handshake is a Proof-of-Work protocol like Bitcoin.  It differs from Bitcoin in that BTC is used only as money, but Handshake coins (HNS) can also be used to register names on the Handshake blockchain.

The Handshake names are top-level domain names (.com, .net, .org).  They differ from traditional domain names in that unlike traditional domain names you will be able to own your Handshake names forever. 

No one will be able to take the Handshake names nor prevent others from accessing it.  More numbers of extensions can also be purchased with Handshake.  The extensions can be anything ranging from Chinese characters, Russian characters, and even emojis!
