What exactly is it you do, described in a pretty “physical” sense, to study monetary theory and deepen your ideas about it?
I feel like I’ve been doing less “monetary theory” per se than a few years ago! I just don’t rate it as anywhere close to the world’s most important problem the way I would 10 years ago or the way many BTC people do today.
Though to be fair, I have recently been doing some thinking about the long-term future of UoA stability. So far, my research there is a combination of talking to people who seem wise, reading things suggested by them, and also just observing what happens in the crypto space.
The latter is because I’m thinking about stablecoins. Some people think stablecoins are purely transitioned tech, and post-hypercryptoization BTC or ETH will be stable. I think there’s a big chance this is wrong and even post-hypercryptoization we would still need explicit stable coins.
Do you believe algorithmic stable coins will ever be long-term stable and secure? DAI/RAI-like stablecoins will be fine IMO! It’s all these new me-too VC-funded “innovations” at making stablecoins more “capital-efficient” or whatever that keep breaking and will keep breaking more.
Is there any single event or person you’ve met that has stuck out as life-changing or pivotal? I feel like my huge span of time in Singapore last year changed me quite a bit. It was interesting to just be by myself and with my own thoughts for the first time in nearly a decade.
My dad often talked about sailing across the Atlantic and how it was the first time he spent any time truly alone and just how insane it felt to finish thought threads that had been piling up in his head for decades. I’ve only recently been able to appreciate half of it.
How are you doing? All of this feels like a lot for a person to handle. The good news is that I feel like ethereum depends less on me than it ever did at any previous point in history. Amazing people like
Danny Ryan; Drake F Justin; Dankrad Feist and Piper Meriaam, EF administrators, and many others keep taking over tasks that before I had to do myself.
Which latest research excites you the most? ZK-SNARKs getting powerful so quickly to the point that a full-on SNARKed EVM is not so far away is definitely exciting!
If you weren’t working on crypto, what would you be working on? What excites you most outside the field? What regulations, if any, would be good for the crypto markets and also acceptable to regulators?
