Bitcoin is not private, and it is easy for BTC Maxis to disregard that issue.  Monero is private by default. You don’t need tornadoes, earthquakes or whatever protocols exist to use it. It is simple to use, which is what we need as a currency, not complicated things. Old people won’t know how to: miX and use the Tornado protocol. Monero just works.

Regarding the mixing, Monero’s stealth addresses is already doing this. Your real addresses never show up on chain.  When someone sends you XMR you wouldn’t even know the sender’s address. If you gave me your address, I wouldn’t be able to look up your tx history or balance.

CoinDesk:  Can privacy coins like XMR survive an increased focus on regulation? “I think that it’s going to be increasingly the case that these markets are sustainable,”

Benjamin Powers:  Monero has seen a pretty substantial but also levelled volume of transactions and that has not really increased over the course of time. I think what is important is that it certainly does attract lot of scrutiny, but there are reasons for why people want financial privacy, there could be a myriad of them, but that is really not something that should be frowned upon.  People want privacy. They want to be thinking about how their networks or how their transactions are being scaled and that can tell authorities about them. Generally, they want to keep their data to themselves. So, that is certainly worthwhile when considering why people might be using it.

Will Monero survive the regulatory environment and the scrutiny?  Monero and privacy coins can certainly survive and that is the whole point of decentralized networks. When you pay attention to it, it is going to be fairly difficult to offramp into fiat for this, so that is something that people need to do or that is going to be increasingly difficult to pull it out in cash. If you are going to keep it as Monero, it is going to be increasingly viable.

Where there is market and demand for privacy – these markets are sustainable.  The off ramping thing is going to be difficult. Monero has large traffic volumes when compared to other privacy coins.

Users of Monero? You are not able to clearly tell who is who and where this money is coming from and going to. There is a way it can be used for consumer goods and things like that, but otherwise, it is tricky to tell exactly who the users are. May be there are.

Volunteers to help Monero:  Those who are willing to make Monero better and are not sure about how they can contribute can check for some volunteer opportunities:  1. Test Core Monero Software.  Volunteers need to have “moderate technical ability.”  They can build and run Monero nightlies. When problems arise an issue can be opened on GitHub. Instructions to build on the OS of Choice is provided for users.  The Monero Outreach Workgroup have a detailed article on how to contribute as a volunteer.
