Dan Held Shared: Bitcoin is for everyone.   Conservatives.  Libertarians. Liberals.  It won’t bend for any group, nor represent one group.

Community Response:

I see some grumbling that Bitcoin leans conservative on Twitter, etc. The conversation/marketing of Bitcoin happens everywhere. Don’t extrapolate Twitter to everyone.

Then why does the Bitcoin conference have Jordan Peterson and Ted Cruz speaking? That doesn’t seem like a sound strategy to win over as many people as possible.

Reddit is a far-left insane asylum. Not a great representative sample.

Agree, and I think this line is what should be taken. Currently, bitcoin is politicized, and it shouldn’t be.

Well, bitcoin is useful for upholding individuals’ freedom and property rights, whilst fiat is useful for centralizing property. It’s no wonder why bitcoin advocates tend to lean right on the political spectrum.

I’m left-wing and here for the asset. To me, the asset should not be politicized especially if you want as many people on board as possible. To me it’s not about freedom, it’s about the supply curve of the asset and the quality of the asset which appeals to me.

That’s fair enough. And, will be a reason why many on the left advocate for BTC. There will also be those on the right who do not like it (Schiff). However, my points above are also correct (IMO) in explaining why BTC leans right (and why so many on the left do not like it).

We shouldn’t lie or try to deceive people as to what bitcoin is. It’s a tool that will make government much smaller than it is now. And we should let people know of this fact – if they do not like it, that’s up to them.

I do not identify with any of these tags. My views and politics are mines, not those of any group. I listen to all views and form my opinions. I have lived in different cultures and countries–humanity is too complex to be lumped into left vs right, conservative vs liberal, etc.

True, but labels are needed to have conversations.

Not necessarily. On a fundamental level, we are all humans.

Even there, who are you to say that someone who identifies as non-human is being human? Ultimately labels are required so that debates can get started on whatever topic. Otherwise, we could be endlessly arguing over how to label things/people.

Bitcoin doesn’t “need” any of these ideologies. Whether the storm, math, and physics are real, sound money marches on. Block by block.

Statists and central planners do not like bitcoin. It is not for them.

Bitcoin = Cosmopolitanism.

Ultimately we are all people, and responsible for the problems and coming up with solutions. Better to keep trying to reach everyone, especially when it’s difficult.

Bitcoin is the last thing I worry about. It’s behind every bank account and online service, military communications, and nuclear codes. Quantum computing that can be applied to crack current encryption algorithms will be a Manhattan project moment.

The concern for the US government is already being acted upon. How long is bitcoin going to take to fork to a QR encryption? 5 years? What about the dead wallets that don’t migrate.

Agreed BTC is money. It isn’t choosing sides. It’s just that the left seems not to like money. They want a nanny state.
