Bitcoin stabilized near $82,000 on Monday after sliding to a weekly trough of $80,100, a pullback triggered by a hotter-than-forecast inflation reading and a sharp decline in AI-linked equities. The flagship cryptocurrency had reached a high of roughly $83,800 on October 13 before the subsequent drop. Traders have since pushed the price back above the $81,000 level, leaving Bitcoin approximately 0.6% lower over the past seven days.

Market Flows and Fund Outflows

Despite the price recovery, capital has flowed out of digital asset investment products. The sector shed $593.3 million in a single week, with Ethereum-focused funds accounting for $320.1 million of the total outflows. Bitcoin products saw $228.4 million in withdrawals. Ether itself dropped from a $2,489 open to a low of $2,336 on Sunday, currently trading near $2,403, a 3.4% weekly loss. XRP fell 4.7% and Solana lost 3.5% during the same period.

The total cryptocurrency market capitalization stands near $2.76 trillion, down 2.1% on the week. Bitcoin’s dominance of the overall market remained stable, fluctuating between 59.7% and 60.4%. The fear and greed index cooled from 56 to a neutral 49, reflecting a shift in market sentiment. Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade, scheduled by Anza for October 21, aims to reduce transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds.

Index Rules and Regulatory Updates

MSCI confirmed a new screening rule for “non-operating” companies effective November 30. This change removes the temporary exemption for firms holding more than half their assets in digital assets. A final list of affected companies is expected on November 11. While MSCI has not named specific entities, reports indicate that Strategy and Metaplanet are likely to be impacted. JPMorgan estimates that Strategy could face up to $2.8 billion in outflows as a result. Michael Saylor has described the rule as discriminatory.

Corporate treasury accumulation continues despite the index uncertainty. Strategy added 267 BTC to its holdings, bringing its total to 848,517 BTC. Strive acquired 4,045 BTC, and BitMine purchased 12,535 ETH, increasing its total holdings to over 6 million ETH. BlackRock’s crypto ETF assets grew 63% in the third quarter to reach $79.6 billion, though this figure remains 23% below the level from a year ago. The asset manager also filed for an iShares Bitcoin Managed Protect ETF, which offers upside exposure to IBIT with downside protection.

In the regulatory sphere, the European Banking Authority designated Circle’s USDC as the first “significant” e-money token under the MiCA framework. USDC will be subject to direct supervision starting November 12. JPMorgan extended its JPM Coin deposit token to the Ethereum network, and Mastercard launched a multi-currency account for fiat and stablecoins built on BVNK infrastructure, which it acquired for approximately $1.8 billion. Allium data indicates that stablecoin payments reached roughly $482 billion in the first nine months of the year, a 45% increase.

In Washington, the CLARITY Act remains stalled after failing a 49–50 cloture vote on September 15. Congress is recessed until after the November 3 midterms. Additionally, crypto adviser Patrick Witt is departing his role, with no replacement currently named.
