“Bulgaria seized 200K Bitcoin from organized crime in 2017 – now worth $7.4b. The Bitcoin has gone missing.”
Community Reaction: Fortunately, the public ledger won’t let it completely disappear.
Guys stop spreading misinformation on the topic. Every few months some Bitcoiners would point to the BG government as holding a ton of Bitcoin, this is completely false. It was auctioned off years ago.
Probable Misinformation: Did they seize it with or without the keys? And, how did it go missing in the custody of the government. Seems like the organized crimes looked for ways to take back the coins that government has been holding for them. Let’s see what the development from this matter will be.
My guess is that they don’t have the keys.
Yes, it wouldn’t be hard for organized crime to get the Bitcoin back.
Sharp Criticism: Governments these days are the largest organizations dedicated to crime. Paying federal taxes sponsors terrorism now.
Then, we should thank Bulgaria for technically burning those coins.
In Germany, when they take BTC from criminal activities they dump it right into the market. Bulgaria has always been a country of miracles in this respect, large sums can and do disappear.
Don’t be surprised, the responsible institutions say there is no such thing as seized BTC, Kraken says the Bulgarian govt has. And, after all the investigations no one can give answer. Oh, one of the wonders of the world.
I’m a Bulgarian, and there is a huge mystery here. It is possible that it is all fake news, but the best conspiracy we have is that they sold it on a private auction years ago. And of course, there is no document to prove it. In all cases, Bulgaria officially owns 0 BTC.
You are also looking for a stable currency, right?
This is why it will never be banned. First, it’s cypherpunks. Then, it’s early adopters and speculators. Then, it’s institutions and corporations, lastly, it’s nation-states.
Spoke with some folks at SELEC back in the days. Then it seemed like they don’t have the keys. Don’t know if that changed.
Yep, I’m from Bulgaria and no one knows where is the 213k Bitcoin.
That’s approximately 1/10th of Bulgaria’s GDP. BTC The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Bulgaria was worth 69.11 billion US dollars in 2020, according to official data from the World Bank. The GDP value of Bulgaria represents 0.06 percent of the world economy.
Whoever was looking after the keys is probably chilling on a boat of their own.
Yes, but did they sell it on? Just like all the drugs and crypto that goes missing from UK police seizures? They’re not missing, they’re hidden for safe keeping.
They’ve already panic sold it to me. They can’t even hold prisoners, how can they HODL BTC poor weak hands!!
Bulgaria 200k BTC 2017 there can be a big possibility that OneCoin have his share in it as well.
This is the road the US is headed down if we allow them to pass bills that do not represent the best interest of its citizens!
BTC is everything but freedom. Cash=freedom. Only smart people understand this.
Not your keys, not your crime.
I am from Bulgaria and just will say something small. I think because of the high corruption no one of the politicians here doesn’t speak about that and for the keys that they try to find I am not sure about it.
