Harmony (ONE) To Give as Many People Access to Decentralized Applications as Possible

Harmony one Decentralized Apps

At Harmony, they say their goal is to give as many people access to decentralized applications as possible.  They are focused on scaling Ethereum Applications and Cross-Chain Finance.

There is a Cross-chain Workshop 2021 Conference. Title: “A Gas-efficient Light Client for Cross-chain Applications” When: March 9-17.

The focus of the cross chain workshop is to bring researchers across the world together to advance the field of cross chain transaction technology.

The workshop is set to be held in 4 x 2-hour sessions across two weeks. The rationale for 2 hours is that people are having trouble concentrating for longer than two hours on a Zoom meeting the time zone will be different for different people.  The 4 times 2 hours is to make time accessible for all users across different time zones.

The main themes of Harmony on Cross-Chain Finance are adoption, interoperability, and decentralization.  They are facilitating adoption through toolings, workshops, hackathons, and grants.  Interoperability is facilitated by Ethereum Bridge, Bitcoin Bridge, Cross-shard, and Cross-chain.

For Clarity, Harmony is a Sharding protocol, which makes use of the trustless Ethereum Bridge.  Harmony developers make use of Ethereum tooling like Solidity and Ether.js. Users make use of Metamask to store use their bridge to swap Harmony and Ethereum assets. They are able to achieve 2-second finality for fast transactions to further support 1000 delegating stakers for secure shards.

Further a cross-chain Uniswap port is already live on their mainnet. Similar to layer 2 protocols, Harmony is fully interoperable with the Ethereum ecosystem.

This is another way for users to get ONE tokens using a combination of Wyre, Sendwyre, Horizon Bridge and Swoop Dex.

Recently, the partnership between API3 and Harmony Protocol was announced, providing for truly decentralized data Dapps running on the Harmony’s fast and open blockchain.

To make the integration possible, API3 DAO are going to co-host a hackathon with Harmony featuring an Airnode-enabled API as part of the partnership. Also, the details of the hackathon will be announced soon.

For clarity, API3 will build decentrally governed and quantifiably secure data feeds which power Web 3.0 applications without employing the third-party intermediaries.

Harmony (ONE) Interoperable Layer 2

Rongjian Lan, Co-Founder and CTO at Harmony Protocol expressed that Ethereum as a layer 1 has been struggling to gain further adoption due to its high gas fee and low TPS. Layer 2 solutions such as Rollups are a potential remedy to the problem, but they are not perfect. Harmony as an Interoperable Layer 2 has a better offer.

The Q1 2021 milestone:  Ethereum Endpoints: Web3.js, MetaMask, Wallets; Trustless Bridge with Light Client, Fast State Sync.  Q2 2021:  Decentralized Voting Power, VDF Resharding.  ‍Bitcoin Bridge, Native BTC-ERC20 Asset Swaps.  Q3-Q4 2021:  Cross-Shard Contracts, Cross-Chain Infrastructure, On-Chain Governance, On-Chain Order Books.
