HoloChain (HOT) continuing to build the technical foundations of Web 3.0

holochain HOT

Holo is a distributed P2P hosting platform for holochain apps (hApps); a bridge to the new Internet.

In a big step forward for the P2P web, Holo Limited was granted a US patent for the rrDHT networking innovations within Holochain. rrDHT is a peer-to-peer networking design implemented in Holochain.

Many were left wondering as to why HoloChain would spend money on a patent – they claim this is a defensive patent.  They are looking to use this innovation openly for context related to the Holochain open-source framework.  This they are doing to avoid someone else getting a patent for their technology eventually leaving their projects stopped on tracks with their innovations.

The IP Attorney expressed, “Patents protect how innovations can be used. In our case this patent is intended to protect the Holochain open-source project from trolls who could file patents on our technical innovation and then use them to prevent us from implementing it. The patent is also a critical component of the Cryptographic Autonomy License. Licenses are only powerful as they relate to the IP laws they are based on. Having this patent ensures the CAL is fully enforceable – which means it will protect the rights of end users to have sovereignty over their data.”

Mary Camacho, executive director at HOLO Building the technical foundations of Web 3.0 to support regenerative communities and economies with holochain expressed:  “Security practices are part of what regulators review. Unsurprisingly, criminal hackers aren’t subject to those audits. 😉 Reports indicate that the FBI “were able to access a server where the hackers stored private key information.”

In the recent Holo Dev update they have stated:  We were in a holding pattern for the memory leak defect during most of this week. However, we’ve now identified a work-around for that while the Wasmer team fixes the issue upstream.

We’re implementing and testing that today and hope to then integrate it with some of the other performance improvements that the team has been working on.

When all of these pieces come together, it will unlock two major efforts: 1) a new release of Holochain, and 2) the load testing of Elemental Chat so that we can proceed with expanded community testing.

We are incredibly appreciative of our community of early adopters who have purchased HoloPorts and have had them registered and working in the testnet.

We’ll soon be offering new mutually supportive ways to have those HoloPorts be used more fully for testing as we expand and improve the network during Open-Alpha.
