Cryptocurrency enthusiasts and influencers have been very vocal about their views; however, the response from the collective broader community sometimes pushes them to hibernate. Vitalik Buterin is now back from twitter quarantine.
Vitalik.Eth Expressed: “In 2021, I mostly stuck to a self-imposed twitter quarantine, only using this site to post links to my long-form content. Q1: in retrospect, do you think this was a good idea? Q2: what should I do in 2022?”
Follower Reaction: You’ve done a great job letting Ethereum grow up on its own the past few years, all while continuing to contribute invaluable research and ideas. It’s now an unstoppable force with no fear of centralization or reliance on you. I’d love to see you back on Twitter more.
Q1&Q2: Only your heart knows and will make a perfect decision accordingly. And 7 billion people will have all kinds of opinions.
Using twitter to amplify the work you and others are doing within the Ethereum ecosystem seems like the most positive use of your account. Getting involved in twitter debates is just a waste of time and energy. So I vote that you continue to do what you’ve been doing.
I find it magical that in this nascent industry we can quickly connect with founders, creators, researchers, investors, thinkers, via Twitter. Imagine if people had this opportunity during the Renaissance or Industrial Revolution! You should use Twitter more.
Using my newfound superpower (sorry! I was amused) to argue that popular perception is stronger that you = Ethereum more than ever before. Reality is you’re less Ethereum than ever before, but normal people aren’t getting that message.
Q1: no, if the signal is too noisy/busy, try tune it instead of silencing it Q2: retro-active twitter: use an anon account (if ToS allows) every month, and reveal the identity later. When revealing, rank the best replies/threads and incentivize better conversation with anons.
I really enjoy following your thoughts so I’d love to see you more active (as long as it doesn’t harm mental health). Agree with others that Twitter debates aren’t the best use of time (for anyone). It’d be great if you could continue to amplify underrated people in the ecosystem.
Since the world, and especially the crypto space, is suffering from madness due to bad players screaming so loud that the good can’t be heard, we need every sane voice, especially yours, to correct it. Therefore, I hope you use your audience and influence here as well.
The amount of energy needed to refute nonsense is an order of magnitude larger than is needed to produce it.
