Ethereum (ETH) Vitalik Buterin Talks and Thoughts and on Solidity v0.7.1 and Eth2 update #15

Ethereum Vitalik Solidity ETH2

Ethereum retweeted on how Solidity v0.7.1 has just been released! Further stating that 0.7.1 adds functions at file-level as a way to define helper-functions that are independent of specific contracts and fixes several small bugs.

The notable new features in Solidity are that the functions can be defined at the File-level.  These functions are known as free functions.  The Free functions are internal functions which replace the internal library functions and the related special behavior.  Also, free functions will be able to call other contracts, emit events and also send Ether.

The Full Changelog with language features, compiler features, and bugfixes are released.  The new version is already available for download.

Recently, the eth2 quick update #15 was published by Danny Ryan.  The blog started off interestingly pointing to Farmer minds his crops; An optimistic outlook; The fields are aflame.”

Further pointed to how Medalla was looking good after some fun and on how a quite testnet is a suspicious testnet.  The blog speaks about the major 5-day incident and the incredible stressors which happened on the testnet. And, on how Medalla has chugged along quite smoothly.  Further pointed to how client diversity is a must for making the ETH2 consensus very robust, which is important to stay protected from extreme scenarios. Concluded stating how continued testing and audits are eyeballing Phase 0 mainnet, and on how client teams are working progressively to asses off, while auditors are digging into every nook and cranny with preparations on for mainnet launch.

Sydney Ifergan, the crypto expert tweeted:  “Freaking exciting impressive developments are happening on the Ethereum Network, while the community are impatiently waiting for thing to ship.”

Mikhail Kalinin tweeted about Eth2 Phase 1 client demo, which is a demonstration of a simple transfer. Further stated that this prototype is capable of performing any Eth1 transaction in an Eth2 environment

Ethereum (ETH) Founder Vitalik Talks and Thoughts

Vitalik has been recently contemplating on how the electricity cost needed to attack a PoW network is close to negligible. That’s precisely why ETC is being spawn-camped right now. Further clarified stating, ASICs mitigate this, but they do so precisely by making a PoW system look a little bit more like PoS, though at the cost of more centralization.

He retweeted an expression which stated, while defi is taking the world by storm, Eth2 has been quietly chugging towards production readiness.  Further pointing to the Medalla stats: “* 40k active validators * 10k pending validators * 200k slots * nearly perfect non-skipping finality for the last 4 days.”

When taking about the advantage of PoS over PoW he stated, In PoW, on the other hand, a successful attacker can just attack over and over again, with no possible way to delete their hardware without deleting everyone else’s hardware. This is an underrated key fundamental advantage of PoS over PoW.
