Cosmos have announced Stargate Upgrade for Cosmos Hub. Good things take time (or) second time is a charm. The Stargate Upgrade proposal for Cosmos Hub is all set to upgrade to Stargate on 18th Feb, 2021.
The communication between one blockchain and another takes place through bridges, side chains, state channels, and swaps. The Stargate upgrade is set to being in the tools for the native blockchain interoperability live on mainnet. Needless to say that this is a long awaited release.
The sooner the Stargate goes live, a governance vote is on the dice to switch on inter-blockchain communication (IBC) which is expected to take two weeks to finalize. The Inter-blockchain communications might become possible for the systems by early March.
There have been several kinds of bridges which work standalone on the blockchains, but Stargate is marking a new era of compatibility. This is because Stargate will be the one big system which will permit lot of blockchains trade value while building on each other’s strengths. Several Tendermint teams are working towards the IBC without giving a definite timeline. It is expected that FOMO will kick in and most of them will choose to get in to the IBC fast.
The BNB coins reportedly represent the most value in the ecosystem, but Binance have stated, “We will not be able to join the Stargate timeline to support the IBC. The Binance Chain community will discuss when and how to support this initiative.”
When all is set Cosmos would have made it easy for blockchains to exchange value back and forth.
Andy Nogueira, Software Developer at Cosmos Ecosystem, tried to explain Cosmos by stating, imagine a world with big oceans, great lakes, and small ponds but no way to transfer water between them. That’s the current state of Blockchains. We need the rain and the rivers which is IBC. It will allow the water (value) to circulate across the whole system.
Yet others added to the explanation stating, or a world with isolated rail roads and similar travel across these segmented paths. If these rail roads were connected, we’d have a way to move value across an interconnected network which is a much stronger whole than the fractured parts it’s composed of interoperability.
Apparently, we’ll see its arrival sooner rather than later, if recent announcements and proposals are anything to go by. As far as I can tell, Cosmos and the ATOM token are going to have an amazing year and the entire environment will benefit enormously.
