David Vorick of Siacoin (SC) Boasts about Homescreen UX

SIA

Homescreen is the first and only dashboard for users to access all their DeFi apps in one place.  Homescreen is a platform, which permits projects to fully decentralize their frontends. Most existing frontends work out-of-the-box with Homescreen.  You do not need to write special code or get special support from the Skynet team.

David Vorick expressed:  Skynet is the only decentralized storage platform fast enough to make the Homescreen UX work. Users have to load entire applications from a decentralized cloud and it must feel better than using the centralized web. No other project is close.

One of the greatest joys of open source is knowing the software on your machine is fully under your control. The confidence that your machine isn’t spying on you, isn’t removing programs, isn’t changing ToS. Homescreen extends that joy into the cloud.

We ask “what if the developers turned evil tomorrow?” because that’s exactly what happened with Facebook. And Google. And Apple. And Microsoft. And many, many more. “The developers will turn evil soon” is a good threat model that reflects the real world well.

DeFi today struggles because the frontends are centralized, giving devs the ability to hardfork contracts, steal user funds, and censor specific tokens. With Homescreen, you can eliminate dev control over frontends. Demand end-to-end decentralization.

Alternate take: if you want to be confident that your apps will remain accessible to you, you need a decentralized app store like Homescreen.

Vorick stated this in response to:  Apple complies with request from Russia to remove an app supporting a political opponent from the App Store. But please, tell me how their decision to scan your private files and report you to the police is only concerning to pedophiles.

Community response:  Skynet is separating itself from the pack quite quickly. Fabulous work you’re doing. If you could zoom out 500 years, you would see just how significant this is. It’s only going to get bigger as you go deeper. Yes price will eventually reflect it, but currency itself is dying.

Someone asked:  Decentralized internet doesn’t support Safari.

David stated, other way around. To keep user data secure we need a couple of browser features that Safari doesn’t support, and despite our best efforts we couldn’t find any way to make it work. We are 100% willing to put in the work to support Safari, we just don’t see how to make it work.
