Litecoin (LTC) Seems to have Gained Acceptance in El Salvador

Litecoin Magazine pointing to a video stated:  Did you know that when El Salvador accepted Bitcoin as a Legal Tender, they also accepted 1 other coin as well.  Litecoin (LTC) is the only other cryptocurrency on the ATM machines in El Salvador currently.

Community response:  Are you sure this is true? Are you going to keep this tweet? Are you not going to delete? no? last chance.

Is this true?  LTC was always a backup onchain solution for ₿.  Remember 2017 when ₿ fees skyrocketed? LTC was the main coin worldwide for TRX. ₿ LN is great for small payments, but did you try send 500-2000-10000 USD via LN from one LN wallet to a different one? /not within the same wallet type.

They just put a bunch of cryptocurrency ATMs in Las Vegas too. Announced on the local news networks I haven’t seen any yet but I don’t get out much.

Good to know.  Tell a Friend.

Can someone explain to me how this news doesn’t make front page headlines with BTC? I don’t get it 🙁

Actually El Salvador technically accepts all cryptos. Ex: if own XYZ tokens in El Salvador in your digital wallet. You could convert it to BTC and use it right?

And yet LTC continued to underperform. Who’ll overtake it next? Perhaps a dozen or two other coins with present caps <$500 million. Lightning makes this a non-issue.

Nostalgic about past history of LTC Charlie Lee expressed:  UASF stands for User Activated Soft Fork. What it means is that instead of having the soft fork (SegWit) being miner activated, the user decides to activate the soft fork in a future date. If the majority of users and exchanges run the UASF code, SegWit will activate.

On September 20, I did my first on chain atomic swap with Decredproject between LTC and DCR. This shows how one can move coins between different chains in a decentralized way. It was a great proof of concept and paved the way for decentralized exchanges.

And on November 16, the first ever cross-chain swap between BTC and LTC via Lightning happened! This fulfilled my vision of LTC and BTC moving seamlessly on the Lightning Network. That’s it for the history of SegWit and LN on Litecoin.

Oh, forgot to mention, there was also the first cross-chain atomic swap between Litecoin and Bitcoin with John Stefanopoulos.  John is the creator of the awesome FutureBit LTC miners. He’s helping with the decentralization of mining!

Charlie Lee is nostalgic about the path that Litecoin traveled through the past 10 years. Those who want to know more about LTC history might want to follow Charlie Lee.
