What is the fastest chain, you ask Is it Avalanche (AVAX) or Solana (SOL)

Kevinsekniqi expressed: Some data on time-to-finality between Avalanche and Solana. Methodology in second tweet. Results: – Avalanche: between 1.3-3.4 seconds – Solana: between ~21-46 seconds (with 1 outlier at 63 seconds)

Methodology: Step 1: Ran the first couple of tests for the time to finality of Avalanche vs Solana. In both cases, you build a simple transaction in web3js + web3Solanajs, sending it to the network’s respective public RPC endpoints.

Step 2: Once the transaction hash/signature is returned, you poll the same RPC endpoint for confirmation that the transaction is final. Avalanche you look for a block number. Solana for the finalized confirmation status.

Community response:  Time to finality is more important than an outrageously high TPS. I think Solana UX is > though.

I agree. UX of Solana is best in the crypto space. Avalanche should release their own wallet. Unpopular opinion but I think metamask sucks.

Is time to finality an issue in terms of probability (negligible)? how come that Solana DEXes are so fast if the time to finality is so high?

Solana does not have instant finality every block? I somewhat have the impression that it does.

Blockchain technology wise Avalanche is superior to Solana. But I must admit the apps built on Solona (Wallet, DEX, DEFI, lauchpads etc. overall ecosystem) gives much better user experience. In the long run, Avalanche can catch up with those.

I don’t use SOL because they need separate wallet.

Would be interesting to see what your take on Nano would be from this perspective, I think it should beat out Avalanche in terms of time-to-finality.

Emin is a professed Nano hater unfortunately, unless perhaps he’s had a change of heart.

I was confused on this and asked Anatoly about Solana time to finality and he said, “mean is 500ms”. Max time is unknown due to slashing possibility. But mean is 500ms.

That’s not how that works. Again, not how this works. It’s like saying you can optimistically commit Ethereum txs after 1 block.

It would be great to have you talk with Anatoly on a podcast or something. Lots of people would benefit because the tech and concepts are complex. Avalanche folks frequently say TPS doesn’t matter, TTF is only important thing. Really?

There’s no comparison, Avalanche is crushing the market and is just a matter of time for people to realize that.

The number of upcoming DeFi projects that see Avalanche as their primary chain is staggering. It’s also crazy how fast the wider Avalanche narrative changed in the past six months from “unsure” to “arguably #1 chain for DeFi”. Wait until subnets are fully unleashed.
