With increasing numbers of users looking at Tor, it is important for the network to scale to suit their demand. It is a challenging task to scale the network while maintaining security. Every Tor client is required to download the entire list of available relays and related information concerning each relay when the client is active.  The client should download more information to keep the document up-to-date. Clients make use of any of the available relays in the network to choose their Tor Network Paths randomly.

Zcash believes that a lot of improvements are important for the Tor Network. The Walking onions proposals seeks to address the problems related to downloading the entire list of available relays. When the solution is implemented by, “removing nearly all directory overheads from the Tor protocol, enabling Tor to scale many more clients and relays with no reduction in security,” there will be a positive impact on the Tor network.
