Will Zcash be able to scale for over a million users? This is a question that has already been answered, but still it helps to recollect the logic.

Zcash ecosystem like any other ecosystem has growing pains and limits.  It is important for them to plan their infrastructure improvements in a way to guarantee for uninterrupted and secure user experience.

The Zcash Foundation is focused on improving user adoption and to ensure this they need to understand the issues involved in scaling. It is only when the limits of the current ecosystem are understood, developers will be able to ensure protocol and deployment changes which will be needed to provide for future user demand.  This these planned changes will help the Zcash network infrastructure to be well maintained at the time of rapid growth.

The Zcash foundation is looking to scale to be able to handle additional load.  To ensure scalability they are focusing on:  Users being able to be making Zcash payments within a reasonable time.  Ensuring there are enough nodes and light wallet servers to provide support for the extra load in a way to scale appropriately.  Light wallet, node, mining, and exchange software do not crash or hang under load.  Identifying outrages quickly and ensuring users are kept informed until the resolution of the outrage.  The Zcash ecosystem is working with a good scalability plan and also a network incident response plan.

The foundation is already researching in a lot of scalability questions like can the community build the necessary infrastructure over the next 5 years? What protocol changes do we need to make to support user growth? What are the privacy benefits of additional Zcash usage?

In terms of dealing with spike in usage, they are looking at the practical limits of the Zcash protocol, limits that can be addressed by adding more nodes like query responsiveness and transaction dissemination latency, scaling out light wallet servers, and other ecosystem infrastructure.

They are also researching in to resolving the current wallet and transaction limits which are encountered by mining pools, exchanges, and funding stream recipients.  Also about placing the node operators to scale up more nodes rapidly in response to demand.

After researching in to all the of the possible scalability questions, they will make the necessary protocol changes and do what it takes to handle rapid user growth.

Recently, Zcash Foundation expressed that they are sad to announce that Jane Yaahc Lusby is leaving the Foundation. The foundation stated, “Farewell Jane! Thank you for all your efforts and contributions, and the very best of luck for the future!”
