The BTG Core Wallet full node version v0.17.3 after running becomes a part of the BTG network, thus improving on the security for everyone on the network. Being the current production release it has been recommended for all of its users.

The major purpose of the v0.17.3 version upgrade is to improve on the safety of the BTG blockchain versus deep-chain reorganizations by introducing rolling checkpoint finalization. The release notes have complete information regarding this feature.
There no other major new features relative to v0.17.1. Those who are upgrading from v0.17.1 or v0.17.2, will be able to stop their node, upgrade, and restart their node without any issue. It has been reinstated that as always those who are using the node as a wallet to be able to back up their wallet files first.
Those who are upgrading from the version prior to v0.17.1 and using the API for their code are asked to be aware that there are certain API calls which have been deprecated and that there are changes to how the .conf file should be interpreted. Release notes are also available in this regard.
