They would sleep better at night if they had a sizable military to avoid the Russian war in the first place. The people in the west take their military might for granted as no major military conflict happened on their soil in a while.

Don’t disagree but there are many financial & economic reasons why Putin invaded, understanding & addressing those issues will do more to stop wars than having a more powerful army.
