Biophysical Resources Traced With Blockchain Technology

While there are key limitations in the blockchain technology, the potential for this technology in precision agricultural technology is gaining growing importance.

Communications technology has enabled remote monitoring of farming conditions.  Smartphones control farming equipments.

Agricultural water management systems have been imported leading to quality irrigation.  Wireless sensors are used to observe the moisture content of a soil, the soil pH, and the nutrient content.  These technologies are also used for precision cultivation in orchids.

Assessing the real-time risk of soil and irrigation and the level of water contamination can be done only via hierarchical management.  Applications that help monitor land conditions, crop cover and growth are used.  Data systems that provide agro-climate data and details of hydraulic systems to farmers in irrigation scheduling are used in the precision management of agriculture.

Environmental monitoring systems can provide early warning, and they can measure baseline data which will be useful for resource managers and policymakers.  It can serve as a great aid in resource planning.  However, in most organizations, that mission of the stakeholders and their preferences correlate with the mission of their representative organization.

Biases in objective prioritization are seen in the decision making process.  NGOs demonstrate disproportionate focus relative issues than dealing with comparable issues.

The economic organization and governance in blockchain technology will enable transparency and immutability.  The immutability factor can help record and trace the biophysical resources right from the source.  These biophysical resources can, in turn, be reused in large scale, and this can ensure accuracy and integrity in government records.

Blockchain technology is a decentralizing force, and communication technology is a centralizing force.  Communication technology facilitates efficient data collection, exploration, access, and improved communication.  Therefore, communication technology is the most preferred form in several research fields.

The environmental monitoring in this field can be accomplished with mobile devices, broadband infrastructure, remote sensing, and global positioning systems.  Whatever be the data structure being followed, blockchain technology ensures that these recorded data cannot be manipulated or detracted from the system.  All historical records stay immutable.

Smart contracts can be auto-executed.  This can be particularly useful in irrigating based on soil moisture. While human beings are self-interested, when the states represent their interests there are possibilities for misrepresentation through corrupt politicians.  However, when blockchain technology is used, the representation will be accurate and data related decisions will not be misrepresented.

If administrators need to manipulate data to fund any of their political agenda or alignment blockchain data would be sustaining the integrity.  Even if they manage to manipulate, there will be several nodes with the same copy and the immutability cannot be tampered with.

XDC Protocol from Xin Fin can be customized to suit the research and monitoring requirements in agriculture.
