The Dfinity Foundation started by blockchain scientist Dominic Williams is based in Silicon Valley in Zurich, Switzerland. Dominic was able to get the $102 million funding for his project from powerhouse investment firms led by Andreessen Horowitz through its crypto fund and from Polychain Capital.
You Tube handle, Bitboy Crypto explores: What makes ICP so special (or) is it special at all? Some say it is the Amazon Web Services, others say it is the ultimate Ethereum killer, but Dominic, the founder of ICP has to say that they are not here to replace Ethereum per se. Instead, Dfinity says ICP is a replacement for one of the building blocks of the internet, the data protocol called TCP/IP. And, that is what sets the Internet Computer Protocol aside from blockchain projects.
Dominic Williams expressed: “The Internet Computer Network is evolving. Its Network Nervous System is processing proposals, creating new subnet blockchains to scale capacity, and more. Happening right now! The first fully adaptive blockchain.”
It has governance tokens that you can buy and trade and it has the built in support for DeFi Apps, but according to Williams all hosts of Dapps, not just DeFi, it could be created for ICP on Rust or their own language. Everything from cloud computing to supply chain management to even social media apps can be run on ICP. They have done it.
Test driving their own version of LinkedIn called LinkedUp are created. All these at a fraction of the speed of the Ethereum and Bitcoin networks. How fast? That is 1000 times faster in the current Ethereum network.
Many of them thought that this was supposed to be an Ethereum Killer something based on smart contracts a real-layer 1 blockchain.
ICP evolves smart contract to encompass their interoperability and it costs them canisters.
The canisters are where the smart contracts and applications are deployed but also record new data to the ICP blockchain. That means having the ability to create an app and upload it directly to the internet where people can find it. That means having the ability to create an app and to upload it directly to the internet where people can find it. No DNS, no HTTP, it is a real game changer.
The Internet Computer Protocol removes all the lexicoding from the internet. This stuff has been around since the 70s and gives creators a powerful tool to make the products more accessible instead of having to kneel before the big tech oligarchy we have now.
