Elon Musk Annoyed by Twitter Introducing NFT Profile Pictures

Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday criticized Twitter about the new non-fungible token (NFT) profile picture service.

For clarity, Twitter on Thursday started rolling out a feature which will permit some users to set NFTs which they own as their profile picture to convey they have invested in the emerging digital art space.

This move makes Twitter to be the first and best-known tech platforms to launch a feature for the flashy NFT trend.

The NFT images will look different on Twitter when compared to other typical profile pictures. The new NFT avatars will be showing up as a hexagon, instead of a circle.  Users will be able to click on them to get more information regarding the artwork to get more details like its creator and where it’s listed.

Twitter Blue expressed:  “gm! You asked (a lot), so we made it.  Now rolling out in Labs:  NFT Profile Pictures on iOS.”

While social media companies are scrambling to establish themselves in the NFT space, it looks like Twitter is trying to be ahead in the game.

Jack Dorsey, stated Bitcoin would be a “big part” of the company’s future. In September, the company introduced the ability for users to tip creators by using bitcoin.

Twitter also announced in the past year that it was building a crypto team which will focus on cryptocurrencies, blockchain and related technologies.

The rollout of the new NFT profile picture feature is limited for now as it is available to Twitter Blue subscribers using the iOS app in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; however, Twitter users on any platform will be able to see the new avatars.

Elon Musk Expressed:  This is annoying.  Twitter is spending engineering resources on this bs while crypto scammers are throwing a spambot block party in every thread!?

Michael Saylor replied:  Twitter can solve the problem of scammers & spambots if they allow real humans to post ~50,000 sats ($20) via Lightning& get verified w/an Orange Check. Then we can limit comments/DMs to verified accounts. Bad actors forfeit their security deposit & Twitter monetizes malice.

Community Reaction:  Finally, it was about time someone large started to mention this.

That’s a good point. Do you see the bigger issue with bots or with hacked verified accounts?

Same argument as “Elon is spending billions on rockets, while half of the world has nothing to eat”

Is accepting Dogecoin more important than shipping cars or making your tunnels.

That’s true, but don’t tell me NFT’s are not the future and Tesla probably will use them at some point in the next 5 years.

You’re having people integrate DOGE into your shop how is that any different? The NFT garbage helps combat scams by making them more obvious, you promote scams to fill your pockets? Hypocritical to the max.

How is Dogecoin any different?

More fun and more tech giants in the cryptocurrency space.
