The validator nodes are powerful computers that process large numbers of transactions quickly. Some of these nodes are run by companies like Samsung and Sony.  These validator nodes are the first in the line of defense to keep the network secure. Samsung and Sony are backing the Theta Network and it is powerful.

Theta Labs is the company behind the Theta Network. Theta Labs run Theta.TV and users are paid TFUEL to view the streaming. 

Theta Fuel (TFUEL) is one of the two native tokens on the Theta blockchain. TFUEL is different from Theta Token (THETA). TFUEL is the second token on the Theta blockchain providing for the utility token in the decentralized video and data delivery.  Also, TFUEL acts as a gas token.

The token is used to power all operations on the Theta blockchain, like providing payments for sharing a video stream, to deploy and interact with smart contracts, and also to pay the fees associated with transacting NTFs and DeFi applications.

Proof of Stake (PoS) based on the Tendermint Blockchain code is the mechanism, which users use to lock up large amounts of THETA by staking. Those who process malicious blocks in the network are penalized.
